After the group meeting it was decided that
we would combine everyone’s ideas together to create one project piece.
We all seemed to have a similar idea of
transformation throughout our pieces so wanted to really bring this to the
forefront of our project.
The idea we constructed was that of nature
taking over a person’s body until they are transformed into an animal. In this
case we decided that a bird would be the best option as we can clearly show the
transformation through wings growing out of the character’s back.

| The Black Swan |
Eleanor came up with the idea of human
transformation through watching the film “Black Swan” which tells the narrative
of a girl with a split personality disorder playing the part of the white and
black swan in the ballet “Swan Lake”. The film uses the different
transformations in the white and black swan to show what side of the girl is
being shown at the time.

| The Swan Princess |
My idea was that of flowers being alive to
highlight that of the “uncanny” using Ernst Jentsch’s 1908 description on the
“uncanny” being ‘whether an apparently animate being is really alive or whether
a lifeless object might be animate’ can be considered for flowers due to them
being alive but not in the sense of being moving and having their own thoughts. We wanted to take this into account as well.
